Audiovisual sector welcomes appointment of Mary Hanafin

Wednesday, 24 March 2010
The Audiovisual Federation, the group that represents the feature film, television and animation sectors, today welcomed Mary Hanafin TD as the new minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Andrew Lowe, Director of Element Pictures and Chairman of the Federation said: “We wish Minister Hanafin every success in her new role and we look forward to working with her in the coming year. We urge her to continue to support funding for the Irish Film Board and the film taxation incentive, Section 481.

“The recent Irish Oscar success is testament to the talent and value of the Irish creative and cultural industry. It is crucial that this momentum is not lost.

“The audiovisual industry is of great importance to the Irish economy. In 2009 the net benefit to the Irish economy was €25.7m and over 1,631 people are employed in the independent sector."
