In reaction to Enterprise Ireland’s 2009 Annual Report, Director of the Irish Software Association Paul Sweetman said: “Despite the contraction in the economy last year, software exports from indigenous Irish companies increased by 6%. The sector is now worth over €850 million and continues to grow. This achievement is even more significant against the backdrop of poor growth levels in the software sector globally.
"However, challenges remain. A scale deficit exists among Irish software companies, with average exports per company only reaching €5 million per annum. In order to assist the sector in reaching its potential, we need to:
1. Increase the funding available to companies through the Business Expansion Scheme fund
2. Increase the level of government procurement of software services and products from indigenous companies
3. Work closer with the venture capital community and showcase investment opportunities through initiatives such as the ISA’s Software Investor Forum.”
