IT outsourcing a key survival tool for business - TIF

Tuesday, 16 June 2009
“Outsourcing is increasingly a key survival strategy for businesses in this challenging economic climate” said Declan Ivory, Chairman, TIF Outsourcing Services Industry Group and General Manager, Data Centre Services, eircom, today, at the Telecommunications and Internet Federation seminar in IBEC, Confederation House, Dublin, sponsored by HP/EDS.

The seminar gave an insight into market trends, in terms of what Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are focused on from a cost management perspective, and also some direct experience of the benefits of an outsourced/managed services approach for IT operations.

"As organisations look to reduce costs, outsourcing certain IT operations is increasingly becoming the norm," said Mr Ivory.

Harry Goddard, Partner, Deloitte, said: "With IT budgets being reduced by 5-10%, most IT directors are having to aggressively cut costs. Selective outsourcing can help achieve this."

Tanya Duncan, Vice Chair, TIF Outsourcing Services Industry Group and Managing Director, Interxion Ireland said: “Outsourcing is becoming more popular as the benefits, such as cost savings, greater operational efficiencies, and increased flexibility and scalability, have been demonstrated through real life case studies.”

Ashok Dave, Operations Manager, LeasePlan Infrastructure Services said: “Outsourcing should be part of IT management planning. A well thought-out, and well negotiated, outsourcing relationship can lead to significant savings.”

This message was echoed by Nick Forbes, Head of Professional Services, BT Ireland, who said; "In the current economic climate, with increasing pressure , to do more with less,- outsourcing / managed services provide an attractive option, freeing up IT staff to focus on the core business."
